A Letter to Confront a Bully

Dear Bully,

I’m not sure what you are going through in your personal life to make you feel like you need to lash out at others. Why you feel you must ridicule, taunt, or hurt someone else.

Is it because I am smaller than you? So now you have the chance to feel strong and big?

Is it because of the crowd you hang around? Are you just looking for a way to impress your followers?

Do I remind you of someone who hurt you or upset you?

Do I remind you of the things that make you feel insecure? The things you wish you yourself could have but don’t?

Do I present a challenge to the attention that you want solely on you?

Are you jealous of the effortless way I befriend people, without trying? Are you jealous of the joy I constantly convey?

Are you jealous of my looks? Are you jealous that I am not afraid to be myself when you so obviously are?

Well, dear bully, you won’t stop me from being great with your constant barrage of hate and slander. You won’t break me down with your violence and negativity.

I know that I am amazing just as I am. I stand out from the crowd so I get singled out and picked on.

I am an original and unique. I challenge your mundane existence so you must pull me down to satisfy your feelings of inadequacy.

I didn’t hurt you and I’m not to blame for the things you feel. I am only guilty of being me, and if that upsets you then I’m sorry.

That sounds like a personal problem.

Sincerely,

The Bullied
