The Girl in Cabin 13 by A.J. Rivers is a suspense filled mystery that is heavy in ominous atmosphere and ends in a stomach churning Halloween worthy reveal.

What’s It About?

Emma Griffin is an FBI agent who is back in action after getting in trouble for going too far in her last investigation. Looking to prove herself and uncover the truth of the murders and disappearances that seem to radiate from the small town of Feathered Nest, she assumes an undercover persona and takes residence in the isolated cabin numbered 13 outside of the town. Emma works to earn the trust of the townspeople and garner the one clue that will help her crack this case. But when it seems she is getting closer to the truth, someone begins to pursue her from the shadows. Will she learn who is behind the murders before she is added to the roster of the fallen?

My Thoughts

This novel started with a Rush Hour investigation type feel that was comical but got me hooked. The character of Emma won me over with her conviction and snarky personality. From there the tone changed into an ever growing fog of foreboding. As clues gradually present themselves through her interactions with the townspeople, you are constantly left guessing who is the killer. The ending is action filled and one that lingers with you after the last page.

Overall Impression

The Girl in Cabin 13 was a slow build of atmosphere culminating in one epic finale. This is a mystery filled with a true horror ending that satisfies for the Halloween season.
