- Book Review| Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin: 9 Steps to Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence
Once I was introduced to the concept of financial independence (FI) I became ever more intrigued to better understand how to accomplish it. I started reading different finance books and watching different people’s journeys on YouTube. I expected this book to primarily center around methods to achieve FI but was completely unprepared for the way it made me rethink my concept of money!
What’s it About?
Your Money or Your Life is lauded as the go-to book to change your relationship with money and take your life back. Through the nine-step program you are made to rethink the role money has in your life. By the end, you will feel a new depth of control over money and the work you do to make it.
I think this book is a must read for everyone. You are made to reevaluate the position money takes in your life and your true level of necessity for it. Money being redefined as what you spend life energy on was a big wake up call for me. I rethought my spending habits and reconsidered what value I place on the way I am paid. Each purchase I made took on the question of how much of my life went into paying for an item. It made me think if what I am buying is truly worth it. Going through the steps made me aware of just how much work I have left to go in order to reach financial independence!
This book gives you the tools and methodology to adopt in order to loosen the hold money has in your life. It is priceless in the way it reframes work and how to come to terms with what you truly need to be satisfied and have enough. Give it a read if the pursuit of money overwhelms you, if work feels more like making a dying than a living, and if you want to better understand how to prepare to live well in the future!
